For two years, we have been developing and building WHO CARED. This November, we are officially launching our online archive – a continuously growing collection of videos and personal stories from people who left their home countries to work in care.
We begin with the courageous women who came to Germany from Kerala in southern India in the 1960s and 70s. Their journeys are only the beginning. From here, we want the archive to grow across countries and communities. Care migration is a global phenomenon that could hardly be more relevant today. Yet what is often overlooked in discussions about skilled workers is that behind migration are people who bring their own stories with them – and, in doing so, also shape the history of their new home.
At our event at Filmforum NRW in Cologne on 15 November, we will celebrate the journey so far, present the online archive, hear from the women themselves, experience artistic contributions exploring the topic, and share our vision for a global archive of care migration.
Please note: The event will be held in German.
