Online archive for care migration
Through the creation of the WHO CARED digital archive, we aim to document the stories of women who left their home countries at a young age to work in the caregiving field. We want to honor their life stories – which have received little attention to date – and preserve them for future generations.
To start things off, we'll focus on the story of the nurses from the southern Indian state of Kerala. In the long term, the project aims to provide a platform for many more stories related to care migration. The goal is to document these migration experiences and make them accessible – to the nurses of that era and their descendants, as well as to those involved in current recruitment efforts in the care sector, the interested public, and the academic community.
Given the advanced age of many of the women involved, it is urgently necessary to document their experiences while they are still alive.
